Clara Stealey's Diary - January 11, 1910

"January 11. -

Thawing some to-day. Asked papa at noon what his answer was. Said he "hadn't been thinking about it". Mama went up to Mrs. Forsythe's. She died last night. Hope papa tells me whether I can go or not to-night. Here's to going!

Refused!!! I have nearly cried my eyes out. I did want to go so bad. As long as papa lives I don't suppose I ever shall get to go to a dance."

found photograph (written on back, in pencil: College Hall burned down. March 16, 1914)
